Old Fashioned Apple Crisp
Makes 8 servings

The aroma helps make this apple crisp extra scrumptious. Bake it as you eat dinner so you can enjoy it hot with a dollop of lite whipped topping. We used the ever-popular Granny Smith apples, but you could try Macouns, Braeburns, or any combination of firm-fleshed cooking apples.

2 large baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup lite whipped topping

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray an 8 X 8-inch round cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Place the apples in the bottom of the prepared pan; they should almost fill the pan.

3. In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in the margarine with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, 2-3 minutes. Spoon this mixture on top of the apples. Bake until the top is crispy and lightly browned, 30-35 minutes. Top each serving with 2 Tbsp whipped topping.
